My pal does a pretty brave thing. She has a baby, and when he’s hungry, she feeds him. Sure, sounds about normal, right?
Well, he’s small, so he’s breastfed. Breastfeeding is really important for babies- for the first little while (two weeks, I think, but don’t quote me, it could be longer/shorter) babies depend on their mother’s immune system. After that, breastfeeding provides incredibly important nutrients, things that an infant needs to grow into a healthy and strong child. This may sound really basic, but I myself didn’t realize how important it was to breast feed a child until my friends all started having kids and told me.
This. This right here is why breastfeeding in public without shame is so important!
Kudos to your friend for being an awesome mom and to you for being a good friend. And just so you know, while breastfeeding any length of time is helpful to a baby, the WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of a child’s life.
